Intro
I can still hear her pain, her struggle, her screams fading beneath the surface of the water. It took exactly 1 minute and 42 seconds for my little sisters pain to disappear, for the world to go silent and for my life to be taken from me.
Tonight, ten years on, there are no screams. Instead the cicadas sing.
The estate has been a part of our family for generations. A two-story, white clad house hidden amongst the sycamore trees surrounding Chestnut Lake. This was our home, our safe haven. In its place stands a stranger. My sister and I grew up here, we spent every summer by the lakeside. Little did I know the summer of 88 would be our last.
I vowed to never come back. I’ve lived with the trauma, never truly coming to terms with Rosie’s death. Now our parents are gone and I’ve inherited the estate, I have no choice but to find out what happened here and to face the truth, I didn’t lose my sister that day. I didn’t lose her because she never existed.
